In Remembrance...a Memorial Day message
In Remembrance...a Memorial Day message
Next Monday we will celebrate Memorial Day. Sadly, many people will just be glad to be off work and have some free time. Most of us will not acknowledge that as we spend time with family and friends this weekend there are many people who serve us as members of the armed forces that stand guard to protect our freedoms whether there is a holiday or not. These fine men and women don’t get paid much, have a substandard health care program compared to non-military members and often spend considerable time away from their families while they do their important work. They don’t ask for much do they?
I often think about todays’ young military veterans as they return home from Iraq or Afghanistan, many of them physically and/or emotionally scared. How special these young people are to fly half way around the world and do their work because a small group of people decide for them. Pretty amazing.
The least we could do for them this Memorial Day is to remember those who have fallen. So take a few moments this weekend to thank a member of the military, say a prayer for those who currently serve that they may have a safe return home to their families and lastly remember those who have died so we could have the day off.
